Question by 95081934578918250295972397023502: Does handheld GPS allow you to enter latitude and longitude?
Does a handheld GPS allow you to enter latitude and longitude? Or if not, does it show the latitude and longitude on the screen. I want to buy a Garmin etrex H to find the corners of my land. Thanks in advance community.
Answer by (:P)
I have a TomTom and it does allow you to enter latitude and longitude to locate a place. It also shows you the L&L of places where you are.

Question by : Can I pair my Garmin GPS with my 2010 Chevy Malibu using Bluetooth?
My car and the GPS both have Bluetooth. I want to be able to listen to my GPS from my car speakers.
Answer by Daniel
Unfortunately no. The bluetooth pairing feature is designed to only be used with cellular phones. GM has a list of devices that are compatible with your Malibu’s bluetooth feature, your dealer can give you a copy.
Your idea is a good one though. I’ve had customers ask me the same thing at the dealership where I work. Who knows, maybe GM will add the compatibility in the future.
Hope this helps!

Question by xXx-skunk-xXx: Can a Garmin GPS tell the speed you are going…or better yet your speed limit?
I’m thinking of buying a garmin gps…and want to know if it will tell me my speed that I am going.
So far I’ve owned 3 GPS and they all tell MPH. The great thing is that they all agree and the MPH reading is little bit lower than the car speed. So I figure that the car speedo is intentionally set to be little bit higher so people don’t get tickets driving at the very edge of the speed limit.
No it does NOT tell you your speed limit.

Question by madfish64: which is better a garmin handheld or a magellan handheld?
I am looking into buying a relatively cheap handheld gps for geocaching, boating, hiking, and hunting. If i get a magellan it will either be the explorist 210 or the 500le if i go with garmin it will be the etrex legend, or the etrex legend hcx. What do you guys think?
Answer by sen_dog14
Garmin for sure. I have an etrex legend myself and love it.
I have had a couple friends who owned magellan’s and the cases broke. Although they were still on warranty, magellan would not honour it.

Question by sunshine: Does anybody know how to take an online trail map create waypoints and download to GPS unit?
Specifically, I’m wondering how I could go about getting a trail map that I’ve found online, marking waypoints and putting it on my Garmin eTrex. Or creating my own trail in Google Earth.
Answer by cactii10
I’m assuming your trail map is a paper map.
If you have some known reference points on the map you can scan the map and add it to Google Earth as an image overlay and try and match up your reference points as close as possible.
Once you’ve matched up your reference points you can then use the path defining tool in Google Earth to trace the path from the image overlay.
Save your path and export it from Google Earth and then put it on your Garmin device!
This won’t be terribly accurate but if you somehow leave the trail and find yourself lost you’ll at least know what direction to go to get back on the trail.
You can find more information about GPS devices and some great tips on how to use them on http://www.sourcegps.com

Question by Denise C: How to load a North America map into Garmin Mobile XT?
I got Garmin Mobile XT installed into my new Nokia N97, but I bought the phone in Malaysia and so it only comes with maps of Malaysia. I will be returning to the US soon and obviously want to load a US map into the device, how can I do that? Couldn’t seem to find the proper download on the Garmin website. Also, how can I connect the software to my PC? Thanks in advance :)
And what is the SD card?
Answer by Ask_Rama
1. On the SD Card – look for the “Gardmin” folder. Check if you see a file named GMAPSUPP.IMG. If exists, rename the North America map file as GMAPSUPP2.IMG and copy that to the “Garmin” Folder
2. Now under the Garmin folder, create a file named GMAPSUPP2.UNL.
3. Open the file and key in the North America. map activation code, save the file.
4. Launch Garmin Mobile xt, settings, map sets and you should see the north america maps as well. select the maps as default and use it.

Question by Mavrik: Telling if Garmin GPS refurbished or new?
I’ve been shopping for a Garmin GPS and I see as many refurbished units as new on the market. Besides seller honesty, is there different markings on a refurbished than a new unit? If so, what are they? I contacted Garmin and they said they don’t re-mark refurbished items. Refurbished do come in plain white boxes as opposed to new items in colorful retail boxes. I forgot to ask about the memory, but I don’t see how a destination is retained if one deletes it.
Answer by J J
Usually if its refurbished (by the manufacturer) there would be a refurbished date on the back of it instead of saying the production date on it. You also can hook it up to your computer and download a program to see the latest destinations even if they were deleted.. So say you never used it yet and now you go on the program and it says like McDonald’s on it that mean its was used before of course.

Question by bulldozierraider: I am trying to load vehicles from my SD card on to my Garmin. How do I access the SD card on my Garmin?
I downloaded vehicles from the Garmin website, and I plugged in my garmin to the computer, then put the sd card in. I dragged the vehicles over the card but now I don’t know what to do. They don’t show up in the vehicle list and I have no idea how to access them in the garmin.
Answer by nhalcion_2000
If you want to choose vehicles on the Garmin, you will need to place the vehicles onto the main memory of the unit. You can STORE (but NOT use and choose) the vehicles on the SD card. Simply connect your Garmin to the computer via USB. When it is connected, simply browse the Garmin unit (not the SD card) and look for the /Garmin/Vehicle directory. If there is no ‘Vehicle’ directory, just create one. Stick your vehicles into that directory. They should now be accessible in the vehicle list.

Question by ralphie: How do I make my Garmin 265wt maximize highways?
I keep getting brought into small roads. I got better directions with my older Garmin.
Answer by Casey
You should check to see if it is on Faster time or shorter distance, it makes a big difference. press tools, settings, than Navigation, then you can switch between the two. I use Faster time to get to places kinda further, and to get around shorter distances I use shorter distance. Try that.

Question by Moiz K: garmin nuvi 660 gps system? do i have to pay for it like a cell phone plan?
When I buy my Garmin gps system what should I expect? When I pull it out of the box will it be ready to use? Or will I have to do something more? Do I have to pay for it over and over, or do I pay for it just once upfront?
Answer by Jeffery H K
No Monthly fees
Most likely you can hook it up to the internet to get the most up to date maps, but how up to date the map writing is still in question.
I do not know how long free updates would last. If you wanted something special like detailed maps of good fishing spots on lakes, that would be a separate purchase.
